On Tuesday, May 14, 2013, the San Juan School District Board of Education held their monthly meeting at the District Office. Here are a few highlights from the meeting: Individuals retiring at the end of the school year were recognized by the board, and thanked for their time spent with the district. The district has 14 retirees this year, 7 of whom were present at board meeting. Combined, our retirees have over 400 years of service with the district. New Principal named at Monument Valley High School

On May 14, 2013, the San Juan School District Board of Education approved Dr. Sylvia McMillan as the new principal for Monument Valley High School.  Dr. Douglas E. Wright, Superintendent of Schools, stated, “we are very pleased that the District was able to hire a highly-qualified candidate to fill the Monument Valley High School principal position and we believe that Dr. McMillan will be an outstanding educational leader for the school.”  Dr. Sylvia McMillan has a Ph.D in Educational Leadership and has over three decades of leadership experience in various busines …

The San Juan School District School Board held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Navajo Mountain High School. The Board discussed many issues, including the following: -USBA Meeting: Issues from the Utah School Boards Association (USBA) Meeting, including concealed weapon permits for employees, consent agendas, policies, and law enforcement notifications of safe school violations. District Spelling Bee Winners

The San Juan School District Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, February 26th at 10:00 a.m. at San Juan High School. Contestants were sent from five of our schools: Monticello Elementary, Monticello High School, Blanding Elementary, Albert R Lyman Middle School, and Bluff Elementary. The three finalists were: Annsheri Reay of Monticello Elementary (3rd),  Noah Kemner of Albert R Lyman Middle School (2nd), and Jared Ward of Albert R Lyman Middle School (1st). These three finalists will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee in Moab on March 19th. We are proud of all of the contestants …

The San Juan School District Board Meeting was held on Tuesday, February 12th at Whitehorse High School. The meeting began at 3:00 p.m. At the beginning of the meeting, Superintendent Doug Wright gave a presentation to the board about the district’s focus on the schools which have been identified by the State as being either Focus or Priority Schools due to low academic achievement.  Recently, three of these schools (Montezuma Creek Elementary, Monument Valley High, and Whitehorse High). were assessed by outside evaluating teams to help them develop a plan to improve the student& …

[This post is specific to San Juan School District Employees.] We wanted to bring you up to speed on a few changes that will affect payroll for January 2013. As you may be aware, we have converted to a new financial system (instead of IFAS, we are now using ALIO). January is the first month that we are actually running payroll from ALIO, and as such, some things will be handled a little differently than they have been in the past.
