1. Many students were recognized during the 2nd Quarter Awards Assembly; thank you to the band members (and Ms. Tolman) & the drama class (and Mrs. Whitehead) for the entertainment. 2. A growing number of WHS students are remaining referral-free; the PBS Party for no referrals included a game of dodgeball, candy, music, hanging out with friends, and drawing for cool prizes. We hope to see every student at the PBS Party for no referrals near the end of 3rd quarter. The new year is a great time to set this type of goal! 3. 1. Family Literacy Night was well-attended; only 3 books were left! Thank you to Robert Hall, Tyler Price, Linda Whitehead, Matt Baldwin, Scott Toomey, and John Fahey for making this family event occur and thank you to the parent(s) / guardian(s) who attended with young people. 2. Teachers and parent(s) / guardian(s) are communicating directly through email; parents report a quick response with helpful tips in working with the young person to complete and return assignments OR provide challenging learning experiences through the home. 1. WHS has an official Booster Group! Its first event, the Festival of Lights, is scheduled for Thursday, December 19, 5:30-8 pm. The planning session will be December 10 at 4:30 pm (right before Family Literacy Night). 2. The Penny War has begun! At this time, it appears the juniors may be in the lead. Pennies help the class; if someone puts a nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, or silver dollar in the jar, it hurts that class. All proceeds go to our elders. 3. The Booster Group is meeting on December 3 to begin to determine priorities; the group will support School Improvement initiatives and facilitate greater student, parent, & teacher involvement. 2. The local PLC for Language Arts is working to plan a fun Family Literacy Night focused on stories from or about Africa.
